This is a great looking gun for the money! It is an original French pattern military pistol. They have always been one of my favorite designs of pistol because of the brass used on the grip cap, triggerguard and barrel band. This one is complete and has a wonderful tone to the brass pieces. The barrel is full-length with the correct French proof marks on the sides of the barrel. The front side of the barrel has the 1818 production date still clearly visible in two places. It originally would have been made as a flintlock in 1818 and was converted later on so they could still use it but in the percussion state as we see it today. The action of the gun works superbly on all positions. The lockplate has the maker’s mark still partially visible as well as the Mutzig Arsenal mark. The 1-piece stock of the gun has a very pleasing look and on the flat opposite of the lockplate you can see the French arsenal markings remnants. The original ramrod is present underneath the barrel has been replaced with a brass rod. This one still has the lanyard ring present on the end of the grip. This is a great looking fully functional French style military pistol from the Civil War era.
