Here's a sword that has a cool look. During the 1840s these militia style officer swords were a desirable weapon. The purchaser could go in and they were basically like a car. You could buy the base model and depending on how much you wanted to spend you could add on anything that you wanted. On the backside of the blade which measures 25 inches it has the pen needle engraving from the Ames Manufacturing Company. This is the desirable makers Mark of the Ames Manufacturing Company of Springfield, Massachusetts. Ames was the premier sword maker in America during the 1800s. The blade has the American patriotic designs that include the Eagle with the "E PLURIBUS UNUM" banner. The cross guard of the sword has the stippled background detail. The original handle is intact on the sword and has a pleasing look to the bone material. At the top of the sword it has the Knight's head pommel Design. The sword is accompanied by an original militia style scabbard. The scabbard has the stud intact for the over the shoulder style belt rig. The scabbard originally would have had a leather body section that has been replaced with metal somewhere along the line and now displays well with the sword. This This is a good looking and still affordable sword from the famous Ames Firm.
