Here is an original Civil War tactics manual. This is the version that was written by Lt. Colonel George Patten of the United States Army and it is so marked on the title page. The book was printed in New York by J.W. Fortune and is dated 1862. The book covers the responsibilities for Army officers. It is 270 hardbound pages and the book measures 7 inches by 4-3/4ths inches. The original cover is intact with a small portion of the spine cover remaining but is detached. On the cover of the book it has not only the title but also the original $2.00 price. What makes this book extra special is that on the title page it has the brown ink inscription of the owner. It reads "Capt. Geo Klinck 2d N.Y. Arty.". The records show that Goerge Klinck enlisted as a Captain in the 2nd New York Heavy Artillery on October 2nd 1861. He mustered out at Petersburg, Virginia on October 3rd 1864. The records also show that he was wounded at the battle of Petersburg on June 16th 1864. A brief history of his service as well as that of the 2nd New York artillery will accompany the book. This is a fine book with a rock solid identification.
