This is a great looking button. This is the pattern that is listed in Albert's button book as TX21 and in Tice's book as TX232A2. It has the simple but classy design of the five pointed Texas star in the center of a lined field on the face of the button. In Tice's book he states that these were made about 1860 just before the war. That is why they have the backmark of the high end retailer Schuyler, Hartley & Graham of New York. They were int he same league as Tiffany & Company at the time. The backmark is vividly clear and reads "SCHUYLER H&G / NEW-YORK". As you can see this is a just a great button all the way around.
