This is a very rare version of the Confederate manufactured Mississippi uniform button. This is the pattern that is listed as MP6 in Albert’s button book and as MP235B1 in Tice’s button book. It is in nice non-excavated condition as you can see in the pictures. Around the edge of the button it reads "MISSISSIPPI”. In the center of the 21mm coat button it has the flat style star. On the back of the button it has the original back and shank intact. In the channel of the back you can still see some of the original gold gilding. According to Tice’s book these buttons were made in New Orleans by the firm of Casimir Rouyer. Since New Orleans fell so early in the Civil War there were very few of these buttons ever made and even fewer survive in this beautiful non-excavated condition. This is a beautiful and rare Confederate made Mississippi coat button!
