This is a great looking non-Excavated button. It is the coat size cadet button that was worn by a cadet of the Kentucky Military Institute. This is the version with the generic style maker’s mark of "HORSTMANN & SONS PHI” inside the depressed channel. It has the original gold gilding on the face of the button. The center of the button has the Kentucky design of the men shaking hands and it has the "K.M.I.” across the center. This is the pattern that is listed as SU192 in Albert’s button book and as KYS275a5 in Tice’s button book. It is an excellent non-excavated piece of Civil War history!
