THE ACTUAL BUCKLE FROM THE BOOK! Leech & Rigdon C.S. 2 Piece Sword Buckle #041
Click on an image to enlarge
This is a fine looking Confederate 2 piece sword belt buckle. This is the one used for the illustration of figure #041 in the revised edition of Confederate Belt Buckle & Plates by Steve Mullinax. This is the version that was made by the famous firm of Leech & Rigdon. It has the bold letters "CS" in the center of the buckle tongue. This one is a little tougher to find than most because it is the variation that has the flattened out border around the edge of the tongue disk. This one was found by my friend Bob Bankston in a Confederate Campsite near Vicksburg, Mississippi. When it was recovered the belt loops were broken off and missing. He had it restored as it looked in the book. When Bob decided to sell the buckle he didn't want to sell it as repaired, so he removed the two fabricated belt loops. It was like this when we acquired it as you can see in the pictured. We had Dr. Robert McDaniel restore the belt loops so it would display like it was in the book. So it has been restored and is priced accordingly. It is the actual buckle in the book and display quite well as you can see.
