This is a very nice original classic Civil War Navy coat button. It has the eagle perched on the anchor below her talons on the front. The edge of the button has nice clear stars. It has the lined background to make the detail stand out better. As you can see the face of the button still retains a nice amount of the original gold gilding in the recesses. The original back and shank are intact. It has the desirable maker's marking of the New York firm of Young, Smith & Company. This is the style listed in Albert's button book as NA101 and in Tice's button book as NA203A10. What makes this one really stand out is that it still has a nice section of the original Navy uniform attached. It makes a wonderful addition to a gorgeous button. This is a wonderful looking Civil War navy coat button with nice gold.
