Here is an attractive original document from the early 1800s. This is a 1817 dated commission to the rank of Lieutenant for the Commonwealth of Massachusetts. It was given to a man named Seth Gavey for being promoted to the rank of Lieutenant in the company of the 3rd Regiment of infantry and the 2nd brigade of the 10th division of Massachusetts militia. On the left-hand side it has the applied embossed seal of the great state of Massachusetts and below it has the beautiful autograph of John Brooks, who was the Governor of Massachusetts at the time. The paper is preprinted and has the blanks that were filled in with beautiful Brown ink. As you can see in the images, it has an old scotch tape repair to the center of the paper that is mentioned for exactness and it is priced accordingly. This is a great and affordable piece from the early history of the state of Massachusetts.
