This is an attractive non-excavated coat size uniform button for the state of Massachusetts. It has the famous arm and sword design of Massachusetts on the face of the button. The face of the button has some of the original gold gilding remaining with an excellent look. This one has the original back and shank intact with the scarce correct pre-Civil War backmark of " BENEDICT & BURNHAM / WATERBURY EXTRA / SUPERFINE". It is the version listed as figure MS36 in Albert's button book and MS210H in Tice's button book. This version is tougher to find than most of the backmarks. When I collected the backmarks this one took me quite a while to find. This is a fine button all the way around and just needs a nice home in your relic room.
